Juulia Kalavainen is a Finnish filmmaker, film and arts educator living in Scotland.
Her work ranges from fiction to documentary, experimental films, puppetry, performance and mixed media work.
In her films, she explores the relationship of imagination, liminality and environment. She works site-specifically, researching and connecting with the local stories and folklore that emerge from the landscape.
Juulia is available for freelance work for script & continuity and production roles in film and TV productions.
She has a BA in cinematography and editing from the Metropolia University of Applied Sciences, Finland, and she holds an MA in Film Directing from the international Kino Eyes European Film Masters joint degree programme based in Portugal, Scotland and Estonia.
